Celebrate the Arts! 2011

Our first event for Celebrate the Arts! 2011 was held last night at Cochise College Benson Center. We had well over 200 people for the talk and book signing for J.A. Jance, a very popular local author. This was by far the largest number of people we have had for an event at the College, and Jance was worth the effort. She was funny, engaging, and for a lot of us who live in this area, absolutely authentic. Even without a mic (which failed on the get go) she was able to project throughout the room, which was filled into every nook and cranny!

Every book that had been brought for sale was sold and autographed. The hall was finally emptied around 9 p.m. and the staff was left setting up for the next event, which will be the big band sounds of Tom Patrick, a Tucson musician.

We can pat ourselves on the back for the success of this event. It takes HARD WORK, a great many hands and generous sponsors to pull off an event of this magnitude. For our small organization, this was the jewel in the crown...at least for now. We have yet to go through a week of cultural delights, and who knows if any will surpass this one. We can only hope!
